Frances Burkinshaw

Frances Burkinshaw Pg Dip, QCG 

Frances initially started her working life in the events management industry, before securing a position in secondary education where she was offered the opportunity to complete a Post-Graduate Diploma in Guidance and QCG. Since then she has moved to roles to The Mirfield Free Grammar and Sixth Form where her time is divided between guiding and advising students aged 15 – 19 and organising a range of small and large scale events and visits. She is particularly interested in theoretical studies behind CEAIG and has recently begun a Masters Dissertation with the University of Huddersfield. In her spare time she enjoys travelling, listening to live music and reading.


Elaine Mawhinney

Elaine has a diploma and post graduate credits in careers guidance with over 20 years’ experience as a careers adviser. She has extensive knowledge of delivering careers education, information and guidance to young people. Having worked in numerous schools across Kirklees and Calderdale, Elaine constantly strives to inspire and empower students to overcome the challenges they face when making informed decisions about their future careers. Elaine has particular expertise in working with young people who are at risk of becoming Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET), she has also previous involvement of supporting other groups in careers guidance, for example the long term unemployed. In her spare time Elaine is a high level gymnastics coach, having worked with both recreational and elite gymnasts.

Sam Hardcastle
Sam has worked in education for over 12 years now and has always had CEAIG as part of her role. She has recently achieved the Level 6 Diploma in Careers Guidance and Development after months of hard work and is now focussed of developing the CEAIG programme at Colne Valley High School. She enjoys working in a student-facing role and encouraging them to identify and reach their potential. In her spare time, Sam enjoys keeping fit and taking care of her young family.

Katrina Clarke
Katrina has previously worked in sales and customer services within the Leisure Industry. Her previous roles include, Sales & Promotions Manager with Rank Leisure, Sales Manager for Fitness First and more recently in various Customer Service and Corporate Sales roles for Kirklees Active Leisure. She recently started at the MFG, bringing with her, extensive knowledge of the local corporate sector. Her role involves supporting the Think Futures team in an administration role, helping with event organisation and she is passionate about forging links with local business and the knowledge and experience they can share with our students at the MFG. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her children, keeping fit and reading
